Ombudsman response to Ofgem's CMA announcement
Welcoming Ofgem’s approach to the remedies the Competition and Market Authority has recommended Lewis Shand Smith, Chief Ombudsman at the Energy Ombudsman, said:
"This announcement is good news for energy customers; the price cap on prepayment meters is particularly welcome as it will help people in difficult financial circumstances to manage their finances. We're working closely with Ofgem to explore other ways that we can help vulnerable consumers, including the possibility that complaints from the most in need could be automatically referred to the ombudsman if they aren't resolved in good time by the supplier involved. Approved by Ofgem, we provide a service which is easy to use, free to consumers and provides a legally binding decision and it’s important that ALL consumers have the benefit of bringing their complaint to us."
